The owners of the Miners Arms are very conscious of the effect our
business has on the environment. For a considerable length of time we have been looking at
ways to mitigate our impact on the environment through our business activities and
lifestyle choices. We have assessed our activities and identified that our significant
environmental impact includes energy and resource waste management.
Our policy is based on the environmental doctrine of
the three Rs
REDUCE REUSE RECYCLE
In order to promote good environmental practices, our commitment
with regard to the environment is to:
Identify the significant environmental
impact of our activities.
Develop suitable objectives, targets
and procedures to minimise our impact in all eventualities.
Conserve natural resources through
sustainable management and reduced consumption.
Protect the environment.
Involve, communicate with and educate
guests, staff, management and suppliers and encourage feedback and suggestions.
Comply with all relevant environmental
regulations and legislation
Use local suppliers and products
wherever possible subject to availability, quality and service being acceptable.
Strive to improve year on year.
- Monitor our environmental performance and action identified
improvements on a continuous basis.
In line with this policy we carryout the following:
- Local produce is used on the menu with much of the food being home
made.
- Our Real Ales come from local breweries where possible.
- Deliveries within the area have been rationalised to the same day and
fortnightly, where possible and combine shopping trips with other activities.
- Wood burning stoves are used as our main source of heating, which can
be considered carbon neutral.
- All light fittings are low energy.
- All bar fixtures are turned off when not in use including bar fridge,
glass washer, till and bar font lighting.
- Fridges and freezers are rationalised during quieter times of the
year.
- Ensuring the recycling of as much material as possible takes place
from the business. including glass, plastics, paper, card, aluminium and organic waste.
- Monitor utility usage to enable the business to identify any
irregularities, and plan more effectively for periods of peak usage.
